My Calgary Stampede Experience: Why I Love Being Part of This Amazing Community

As a photographer, there’s nothing quite like the energy and excitement of the Calgary Stampede. It’s an event that embodies the heart and soul of this city, and every year, I find myself more in awe of what it means to be part of this incredible community.

This past Stampede was no exception. From the moment I stepped onto the grounds, I could feel the buzz in the air. The sights, sounds, and energy of everyone coming together for this ten-day celebration of Western heritage, culture, and community are unmatched. Whether it was capturing the thrill of the rodeo, the joy on kids’ faces during the parade, or the electric vibe of the evening shows, every moment felt alive with possibility.

As an event photographer, the Stampede is a dream come true. There’s so much happening all at once, and I love being able to blend into the crowd, capturing the unscripted, candid moments that truly showcase the spirit of the event. One of my favorite moments this year was photographing a group of friends sharing laughs at the chuckwagon races—pure joy, pure connection. Those are the moments that make Calgary and the Stampede so special.

But beyond just the event, what really gets me excited is the sense of community that the Stampede fosters. As a relatively new member of the Calgary community, I’ve been welcomed with open arms.
